be nice to retail people

I have been working a couple different post this week.  Neither of which I ever got around to finishing.  Well it Thursday, and since tomorrow is a holiday I guess we can call if Friday.  Those of us in the corporate world have tomorrow.  Our Friends and loved one who work retail are not as lucky.  As much as I bitch about all the corporate crap, the 15 dollar stock price and the constant flow of dumb emails it’s nothing compared to daily hell experienced by peopel who work retail.

I’m going to take a little while to bitch about retail, or some of the horror stories that get passed my way.  If all retailers are like one particular chain that I have a second hand insight into then All retail regional managers are either complete air heads or total control freaks with eating disorders.  Well in the case of my friend their manager is both.

Dinner and drinks are always accompanied with some new story about the regional manager from hell.  Just a little background this chain deducts customer returns from the store that handled the return not the store where the purchase was made.  That seems a little fucked up from the start but it gets better.  In once case every member of my friends staff was over 100 percent of their sales goal.  But due to the number of returns from other stores they missed their week.  The regional manager bitched my friend out because they didn’t try harder.  I’m sorry it’s Math you dumb bitch !!  If everyone has performed past set expectations and that’s not good enough.  What the fuck !

People who work retail always get shafted.  They always have to work when everyone else is off.  They never get any holidays, they never seem to get to do anything on weekend until after 10 or 11 pm.  As much as I like a Tuesday off from time to time I’m sure it gets old having your weekend reduced to Tuesday Wednesday.  It really just pisses me off that no only do we the fucking dumb wits spending our weekends running from store to store at the mall treat these people like shit, but so do their own managers.  I may not get paid as much as I think I should some times, but I do have supportive managers.  I do get to have dinner without my phone ringing 10 times a night.  I’m not constantly scared my job will be threatoned because some staff member wore the wrong fucking color.  I do occasionally get out at 4:30 and have the opportunity to drink a beer and write in my blog.

So if you go out to the mall this weekend or eat out or anything try and think about the lives of those people waiting on you, be a little nicer, tip a litle more, (and for the love of god tip on the full amount not the pre-taxed amount).  And if you happen to be a regional manager try to treat your employees reasonable, learn to do math, and lighten the fuck up.

another week

Wow - This week has gone by so quickly.  I don’t think know if I’m any closer to finishing up any of my projects at work.  I think things have to slow down a little.  I’m just sitting here at work enjoying the quiet.  Friday afternoon around the office is always quiet.  I really don’t have a lot to report.  I finished up putting down some wood chips and some ground lighting in the back yard last weekend.  The frogs are doing ok for those of you keeping up.  The dog has been crazy, I don’t think he’s getting as much exercise as he needs because it’s been so hot.  Tony is in town this week so we may go out with him tonight to east blvd and see Rex and the gang.
Note:  Ellen said my RSS feed was not pretty in Google Reader so I guess I’ll look at that template.    Off to catch the bus.

George Carlin, 71, Irreverent Standup Comedian, Is Dead

From the NY Times:  George Carlin, the Grammy-Award winning standup comedian and actor who was hailed for his irreverent social commentary, poignant observations of the absurdities of everyday life and language, and groundbreaking routines like “Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television,” died in Santa Monica, Calif., on Sunday, according to his publicist, Jeff Abraham. He was 71.
